I've been after a faster, shrink-proof pore filler, so I've been experimenting with CA. I like the results so far. I use medium viscosity for filler, sand back to wood, then the thin stuff for a final seal. Trouble is, it stinks. Anybody have a low-odor CA glue they like? Pat |

All of that stuff burns my eyes, I can't imagine pore filling with it unless you have great ventialation. What were you using before? |

I was using Z-poxy, but always get some shrinkage. I meant to mention I'll be applying Royal Lac over it. |

Pat, what brand are you using now? I have glu boost, satellite city, stick fast and titebond brands. The glu boost isn’t too bad. The stick fast is the worst, in my opinion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Brad, I just have some Satellite City for general use and filler/sealer experiments because it's available around here. But I won't be able to deal with the smell doing a guitar body. |

I have recently been using BSI gold low odor. So far so good! You can order it online usually with free shipping. Several Brands make a low oder version. Of course it cost more. I got sensitized to the regular stuff, and if I got a good whiff up my nose I could not breathe through my nose for 24 hours. I still use it sometimes but make sure there's a fan on in the right position. |

The key to the use of copious amounts of CA glue is a downdraft sanding table. |

Check out Starbond if your going to use CA glue where a respirator. especially for the size of your shop. You can buy from them direct or amazon prime has free shipping on small quantities. |

Bob Smith Industries (BSI) Super Gold (thin) and Super Gold + (medium). Been using it for over 20 years, and I won't use anything else. |

DP- 10 is the brand name ? I believe beau hannam uses it in the larger bottle. I bought a small amt from my local hwd dealer metro hdwds here in independence mo google dp-10 and see who offers it ?. It really does fill the grain very nicely , and there are a whole host of other brands as others have mentioned |

I just did my first CA pore fill. I tried Glu Boost (fill & finish and thin), StarBond Medium & Low Odor, and 2P-10 thin & medium. The StarBond low odor only comes in thin and does not smell anything like CA. It doesn't burn your throat & eyes but has a weird petroleum like smell. It also takes longer to cure and seems to have an oily, non-sticky film on the surface before it fully cures. It's weird. I messaged Ken Franklin who experimented with it as a lower cost alternative to BSI Gold. He said the StarBond low odor caused some crazing problems that the BSI Gold didn't. Although it does stink, the StarBond medium worked the best for me. It was the easiest to work with in terms of working it around and getting an even coat. Instead of grabbing like the others, it would seem to thicken but still be workable before it grabbed. I put a small fan on my bench to keep the air moving in one direction but occasionally would have to leave the room. Although the fumes are irritating, I find the accelerator more offensive, FWIW. Run a small fan by your work area. That should do it. I also fire up my central whole room air fan/filter which gets the air moving in the shop. It's a concentration problem - air movement takes care of it in my experience. Andy |

Fan does help, but doing a guitar B&S in a 200 sq ft shop, it gets pretty intense, which is why I'm looking for low-odor. |

I've been doing some experimenting, and it seems like the low odor version doesn't get quite as hard as the regular. At least in the BSI brand. Maybe it takes longer to cure? This is after a few hours... |

Does anyone know if medical CA works well for guitar applications, and if it has lower odour? Alex |

Alex Kleon wrote: Does anyone know if medical CA works well for guitar applications, and if it has lower odour? Alex I asked my buddy who's a doc. He said it stinks just the same. I suspect it's a lot more expensive too. |
