I am building an all-Alaskan-Yellow-Cedar parlor guitar with some abalone and ebony accents. I would like to have open-back tuners with black buttons, and I can't afford the more expensive sets. I am looking for something in the $50-60 range in nickel with black buttons. And 15:1 or 18:1 would be an additional bonus. I have searched the internet fo longer than I care to admit, and haven't come up with any. Best I can find is some Golden Era with white buttons, and then replace them with black. Any ideas?? Ed |

These might work. Search for 232552341205 on the big online auction site. |

Hey Ed - I just went to all parts.com and searched for "black tuner buttons" and the search returned a couple of choices. |

Hesh Thanks for that - did not know about All Parts. There is no dearth of black buttons: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=guitar%20blak%20tuner%20buttons&ssPageName=GSTL But I have only been able to find gold with black buttons (not a fan) and ukulele with black buttons (to small) until the set that John J came up with. Here's a recent video by Dave Collins on replacing buttons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VExGfSOnaSo&feature=youtu.be |

Hesh - that is exactly how I replaced the buttons 2 years ago on a friend's 0-17 that he got new for his bar mitzvah in 1952 - guitar in perfect condition because he never learned to play it, but those buttons were crumbling in your hand. I saw a video on taking off the metal buttons where they used a claw hammer and pried them up with the body carefully clamped in a vice. Thanks all - Ed And Hesh - who was that playing the background music in David's video? |

I think that that's Blind Blake but I'll ask Dave to be sure and get back to you tomorrow. |

Ed Your link shows some nickel open back tuners with black buttons for 40 bucks. They look like Grover knock-offs. Could be okay. |

Ken You are right, but they are gold colored - not my preference. Thanks for noticing. Ed |

Have you looked at the Rubner tuners? A little more expensive, but I've had good luck with them on mandolins. Edited: Dang autocorrect! Who would want "rubber" tuners!? |

Do a search on aliexpress.com for black tuners. Some of them are very cheap, probably poor quality. but the first set listed seems like a possibility. |
