I’m still working out some sources for regularly needed building supplies, and need to find a good place for the mortise and tenon barrels and bolts for bolt on connections. Lmi has these, but their shipping is kinda crazy, especially if you dont build a ton and only need a few connectors.

Stewmac doesn’t carry them, that I can find (why?)
Anyway.... where do you get yours?
Thanks for the insight

Yeah, if you mean cross dowels when saying barrel connectors, I usually get those from Amazon or the local Ace Hardware. I've switched to hanger bolts on ukes and also using those on the next few guitars to see how they go. With a M/T joint the hanger bolt lets you really sink in the screw end deep, which gives me some peace of mind compared to have just a few 8ths of wood on the bottom side of the cross dowel. Probably overkill though I'm sure. :)

Yes sir. That’s what I mean.
With the kits I’ve built they all used hanger bolts.

I get my barrel nuts and Furniture bolts at Ace. Look for furniture connectors in the wonderful aisles with all the little boxes.

Spend some time there you will find all sorts of cool stuff for lutherie in those boxes.

Home Depot and Lowes. Like Terence said, you might find lots of other stuff.

FWIW, I evolve out of the bolt on M&T to the butt joint. The tenon is a holdover from the dovetail. If you're using bolts, there is no real reason for a tenon at all.

In other words, beyond being the spot that holds the barrel nuts, the tenon has no actual purpose in the bolt on m&t.

You may already be aware of this, but if you order barrel nuts online, make sure they are the kind that have the bolt hole centered. Some barrel nuts have the bolt hole offset toward one end.

I’ve actually been looking for examples of this today.

I don't know about your search skills, but I did outline my process exactly in the build/repair section of the AGF not too long ago...

If you don't know about McMaster Carr, they are a great place for mechanical parts.
