Have some small pieces to run thru drum sander......few years ago a thread on here, I think....

-slave board, CA, wax paper, CA, veneer? something like that??? thanks in advance......

I use hot melt glue -- thin as required -- release with alcohol, HG peels off clean

How small are you talking?
I have run pieces under 4" in length and have thinned to about .040" through my drum sander with no issues.

Bri; just don't feel comfortable with small pieces....maybe as small as heel caps....I have a 10-20 Performax that I really like, but the 'hold down' bars are kinda far apart.....

Backing board and 2 side tape.

I use the same setup as well.

Sending just heel cap sized material through there though... whew... don't be on the back side when that bullet comes flying out!

Same here. This works no problem for things in the size range of head plates and bridge blanks. You can go much smaller if you want. Last year I inlaid ammonite fossils into a fretboard and needed to flatten them from the back side. They were only 3/8" to 5/8" across. Double-stick taped them face down to a carrier board and it worked great.

I use Scotch removable poster tape which comes in a small plastic dispenser. It's very thin and has very good stick. I get it at Ace.

I just send it through, what's the issue? Are you worried about sniping? I have only seen that happen when talking to deep a cut so just go slow and easy.

Performax suggests minimum stock length of 2-1/2".
I would give it a try on some scrap.

Thanks guys for the help!! I'm good to go!

I also used double sided tape on a backer board - releases easy with naphtha. For real little stuff I put a few sacrificial strips on either side to make sure I get a clean level cut on the small parts.
