Tomorrow my son will audition for his 3rd grade talent show. He's playing a Paul McCartney tune, if you can believe that. I'm going to accompany him playing rhythm while he plucks out the melody to a couple of the verses and the chorus. He is really coming along with it. What will make it even more special is that we will both be playing handmade parlor guitars that I've built over the last year. Both were birthday gifts separated by 6 months. Perfect amount of time for my slow build process. That accomplishment still sometimes makes me shake my head. I wouldn't have thought a few years ago that I would be able to pull off building anything from scratch, let alone an acoustic guitar. Just wanted to say thanks to all the helpful people here on the OLF. Your contributions to the site make it possible to accomplish something truly great. Thanks! Congratulations Brad. What a wonderful reward for your efforts and something your son will remember his entire life. I hope someone at least gets a photo you can post here. |

It's great that you've built guitars for you two and that you get to back him up in the talent show. Very cool. |

Actually ya'll came blame my daughter Emma for getting me into this money pit She sings like an angel, and wanted to start to play guitar several years back. I needed an acoustic and my old custom D-18 had taken a fall out of a wall hangar, and split the sides, I took the back off and was just amazed how anything that looked so crappy could sound that good. Anyway decided to build one from scratch, Emma's first guitar was a White Oak, Lutz Martin size O. She entered the Norris Middle school talent show in the 6th grade and placed 3rd, 7th grade she placed 2nd, and 8th she won, all playing her homemade guitar. She's quite the young lady now and plays a 13 fret Nick Lucas I built. I've backed her up plenty of times and we've played guitars that I built. Lots of fun enjoy it while you can, I know I do |

The talent show was tonight. Hopefully this video link works correctly. It's hard to hear because of the mics. If you turn it up to hear it, and happen to make it to the end, turn it down when the crowd starts cheering. My wife was screaming her face off. Such a neat experience for him (and me )! The song is Mull of Kintyre. A song from Sir Paul McCartney. The song choice was my sons and I tabbed out the melody for him. He's got such a wide array of music interests for a 9 yr old. https://youtu.be/1NdJqJOCFws?si=N7yf60PFNS0EvntH Brad Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wow seven years ago he was that little guy playing Mull of Kintyre. https://youtu.be/1NdJqJOCFws?si=N7yf60PFNS0EvntH Here is today’s recital for his music academy. Quite a bit different than a quiet acoustic tune. His hair is so long now! https://youtu.be/s9wkrVo2aSE?si=QvfQVVJd1SO73ifc Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro |

Very cool video journey, Brad. It happens fast, right? Did you make his electric too? |
