Post subject:  Finished my first on Fathers Day

Well .... I am working on a few guitars for a few years laughing6-hehe but so many things seemed to stop me.
I have found no joy in doing the finish but love the woodworking part.

Well today I finally got some strings on my first instrument....
Not a guitar but a ukulele... I finally decided to just make something I could play without caring so much about the details

Of course I worked as good as I could on the details but was able to just say finish it.... bliss

Today it's got strings!!!!

Thanks Forum for all the ideas and help I found in this place!!!!
Specially to you Peter :)

lovely looking uke, Dennis. The side markers are a very classy touch, and your finish looks very nice

Brian (henderson is go on the AGF)

Thanks Tony....

For me Learning from mistakes falls into two categories
1) start over and do it right
2) be creative and make it work :)

This one with the fret markers came about through category 2

Still building for now... I doubt I'll be able to continue while in college next year (unless I have a really cool roommate laughing6-hehe ) in fact I just finished a uke recently too (I won't post pics as to not hijack your thread). Great minds think alike bliss

Nice Brian

looks great!
Love the neck heel ...

I was pleased that mine sounded good... wish it was a bit louder but I have another that the top is a bit thinner just about finished and hope it will have a bit more volume

How did you feel about it after you strung it up?

Thanks! I've built a few other ukes so far too, so I had a bit of experience with them: I made the top and back of this one about .065 and I'm quite pleased with the sound. It's very loud with a really nice array of dynamics, but tends to be a bit bright due to the spruce and maple combination. I'd like to tackle a tenor next though.

This is #2 and my top is right at the same thickness as you said yours is.
It is much more lively and lighter built ...
