I have a LV 17oz fish glue bottle , and only use abt 5oz per year, a little seems to go a long way.Have any of you frozen it and then reused it a year later . Also I read on a website that adding 10% glycerin to fish increases it/s strength , is that valid ?? I /ve never tried it ??. are you using hot water for cleanup like HHG ?/thanks.

Me too! Glue thumb and forefinger together, hold for a while, pull apart. If the glue is sticking and there are lots of long strings, it's OK, as I understand.

The LV batch is from aug 2012, yup it/s vy sticky.

Don't need to freeze it, Ernie. I just refrigerated my extra and it's still good after 5+ years.

Perhaps, but storing it at room (or fridge) temperature for a long time "changes" it too. Although I haven't done any scientific tests, and I have no hard data to back it up, it seems to me that the glue I take out of the freezer is closer to its orignal properties than the glue that I have kept on the shelf for a long time.

I started using fish glue maybe 10 years ago, and I kept that first bottle on the shelf until it was empty, 3 years or so later. The "tackiness" of that glue seemed to be a bit lower than the fresh fresh glue that replaced it, so when I bought a big pail after that, I poured its contents into a number of smaller containers and put them in the freezer. When I take them out now, one by one, the glue in each one seems very similar to the previous. So, like I said, I have a feeling it holds up better that way, and from my experience, freezing does not seem to affect it in any negative way (none that that I have noticed yet, anyways... )

By the way, on their web site, Norland (which is the type I use) state this about their fish glue: Storability -- Excellent (Freeze-Thaw Stable).

So Filippo, not to be argumentative, but do you have any information that indicates that freezing fish glue is not safe? The way you put it, it seems you think it will change for the worse, and I'd be very interested to know why you think so.

The bottles of Nordand that I get say right on them it is OK to freeze. I pour out some in an easy to use jar and freeze the rest. I just thaw it out a day ahead when I need more.
