Post subject:  Fibres sticking out on tonewwood

Hello,
Are the fibres that stick out from ough band sawed tonewood (spruce) caused by runout?
I was on a tone tapping site from an interview with Dana Bourgeois and it is my understanding that this is what he mentionned.
Now, just about every piece of bandsawed dried spruce tonewood that I ever purchased has fibres to some degree; and many just about all over.
Good 3A grade, and most planes quite well.
Can someone explain this please.

Hi Ronald.

You should see fibres on most rough sawn spruce. All of my wood is sawn with fairly course (1 tooth every 7/8", .080 kerf) bandsaw blades. I also cut the wood directly from the log so they are still a bit wet. The odd time that saw dries billets the wood is much smoother off the saw. One can actually see much better on a rough sawn plate than on one that is sanded because the localized runout will 'shadow' and it is very noticable. So, your past experience looks good to me!

Hi Shane,
Can you show a picture circling what you mean by localized runout will show a shadow.
It would be greatly appreciated.
Ron
