Have strings gone up in price like gas? I used to get strings on E-bay, for about $3.00 a set, when bulk buy. Martin mediums, 80/20 bronze. Now, all I get is stuff like this,http://cgi.ebay.com/Repurposed-Guitar-String-Ring-Handmade-jbidesigns-/170623603472?pt=Guitar_Accessories&hash=item27b9f59310#ht_500wt_1038 Actually, just kidding, but, anyone have a good supplier? My friend can get rotosound strings for cheap, BUT, quality varies. |

If you want acceptable strings at a good price, I used for 10 years, the strings from webstrings.com, and so did my son for his electric guitars and a couple of acoustic guitars. They are good strings, made by a major string manufacturer, of which there aren't very many, but with no advertising costs involved. Good price and good strings. I don't put them on the guitars I make, however, as there is something to having a "name brand" on the instrument when you hand it to someone to try out. First question is often, "What kind of strings do you have on it?" |

Euphonon: you need to call 888-517-4678. The website is not up to date and is not even linked to the company. Lipton is very old school: no internet sales, no plastic. You need to send a check through snail mail. I get strings, kerfed linings, pipettes and the occasional sitka bracing stock there. Great stuff at great prices. Strings are Martin in bulk I would think, and are of excellent quality. |

Walter Lipton at Euphonon is a cool guy. I've gotten almost all my tonewood from him for about 7 years. Like Laurent said you have to call him or write and send a check. He has some great 30 year old sitka tops. |

Thanks gents. I used to buy strings from an e-bay seller called "cheapstrings", and got spoiled at the $3 bulk price. He doesn't sell anymore. ![]() |

I called earlier this week and a recorded message said most of the staff are on vacation. you can still make an order, but it might take a while before they're filled. Of course, it's probably safer to wait, since the online price list is way out of date. As far as the quality of strings: I've been buying strings (and some luthier supplies) from Euphonon for over 20 years, and never have been disappointed. |

I just bought from this guy a few minutes ago. I'm sure he will have another auction up of the same. Someone on UMGF said he's been reliable. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... MEWNX%3AIT |

I used to buy from Webstrings a lot. They have good prices and the strings are good. They say they are from a major manufacturer, but don't specify which. I would bet that has something to do with them being able to sell them at a discounted price. If I had to guess, they look and feel an awful lot like GHS strings to me. But that's just a guess. i stopped using them a while back because for me they were more convenient when buying in bulk. At the time I played 4 or 5 different guitars alternately, and it was worth it. Now I play two different guitars on a regular basis, and strings locally are about $5 a set. Easier for me to just go to the store and buy a couple of sets than it is to order them and wait for them to show up at my door. But I am considering going back to them. |
