Hi all, Just a note about the upcoming GAL convention this summer in Tacoma WA. The schedule of the upcoming GAL convention has been finalized and registration is now open. Registration forms were mailed out to all GAL members recently. You can use the form or register online at the GAL website at http://luth.org. The schedule for the convention and the list of presenters is available on the site as well. As is always the case, the schedule is packed with presentations and workshops, so many that there are usually three workshops going on simultaneously. There is a large list of well known presenters. In addition to the presentations, the convention features concerts every night, wood and supplies for sale, and an instrument exhibition where luthiers show their work. More info is available on the GAL site. Hope to see you all there. rm |

I'm planning to go. I don't know if I'll have a guitar with me... The seminar lineup looks pretty good. The mandolin looks like the "feted instrument" this year. For me the John Greven talk will be worth the price of the whole trip. |

Originally, I was gonna take David, drive to WA and make him sing the whole trip. Somehow that got shelved, and flying took center stage. Perhaps though, once there, we could get David to sing at meal times? Looking forward to it, and I hope you DO bring a guitar David. Steve |

Steve, I had forgotten that offer you made to take me to the next convention, that was 3 years ago wasn't it? Now that you bring it up, I am preparing one song for the trip. Actually two songs, but I will narrow it to one by the time you pick me up. Either "99 bottles of beer on the wall" or "The ants go marching one by one". Seriously, the ability to bring a guitar to the convention has a certain time / risk element. Which guitar will I be working on and be finished just at the right time to take to the convention? Will taking it delay delivery too long and irritate the customer? Do I dare risk some accident with it? Or do I just shlep my beater and face the ignominy of not bringing a sparkling new guitar? What would you do? |

What I'd do--pick some different songs, and start a new guitar and build it in the next three months. ![]() Steve |

Lance, as interesting--and useful--as shows like Healdsburg and Newport are, the GAL convention is far more fun...so your word was well chosen. You will be missed. Dave, I'm gonna try to have a couple ready to go. After goading on David, it's the least I could do, huh? Steve |

I'll offer an afternoon/evening get-together at the Running Dog/Sound Guitar shop in Seattle on Tuesday, July 19. We'd enjoy meeting more OLF'ers! We're 1/2 hour from SeaTac, just north of the ship canal, off Rte. 99. It's a large shop, full of building and repair projects (both ours and our students), and just right for a relaxed evening of playing, talking, and getting into a lutherie frame of mind. With enough interest, we'll invite some of the local friends and out-of-towners on their way to GAL. Last Convention year, we had the Stew-Mac crew drop in for a private presentation. Maybe we can get them back, or Ribbecke or Charles Fox, or ... throw in a performer or two and enough beer and Thai food and you've got a real pre-Convention event! If anyone's interested, drop a PM or post here. Let's see if we can make it happen. |

I inquired with Deb about any 'going's on' the Tuesday evening.. she said it might be good to post on their facebook page... GAL on facebook. Looking forward. |

I will be at the GAL convention this year! I am very excited to see some real benchmark guitars and meet the makers. I will have some of my guitars as well for those of you who enjoy seeing examples of things that need improvement. |
