This is another experiment that was a big cover up from centering my rosette on the wrong mark. Here are some specs

top- german spruce
back sides- claro walnut
back strip- wenge
neck- curly mahogany
fingerboard/bridge/headstock-wenge
scale length 25.5

This one had experimental bracing since the soundhole was in the wrong spot. I kinda wish I would have taken pics of the bracing, but I got impatient and glued it together. This one sounds really different than I expected. All of my other guitars have had really strong overtones and were really good for fingerpicking, but were difficult to sing with because they forced you to fight against the overtones with your voice. This on on the other hand, is extremely strong with fundamentals and kinda shy with the overtones and seems to have no volume limit. I'm excited to see what happens as it opens up a bit.

Very nice! And extra cool points for experimenting instead of scrapping the top. Love the headstock shape.

I actually thought you added the second soundhole just to be cool and different when I first saw it :) Then I was trying to figure out what kind of bracing must be in there, since it looks like the hole is right where the X intersection would have been. So I guessed ladder bracing. And then quit gawking at the pictures and read the actual post.

I too wish you had photographed the bracing. But even just a description would be nice, or better yet a sketch. I'm always curious to know how different patterns behave.

Dennis, this is what the bracing looks like. The triangle above the x brace is 1/4 x 3/8 and ties into the heel block. I wanted to add a little extra strength there since it has no UTB. And thanks for the kind words guys.

Thanks Andrew! That's an interesting one. One thing that jumps out to me is the short distance between the bridge and the X intersection. Maybe emphasizes the lower frequency modes compared to high modes that give more overtones? Me lack experience to properly judge.

Not sure how that upper bout area would behave either... maybe more like a classical, where the waist cross brace pretty much isolates it so it doesn't do a whole lot? Or maybe favor a long tripole kind of thing? If you ever get into Chladni testing, this would be a good target.

I appreciate the bracing sketch as well. I too thought you might've gone with ladder bracing since I have heard similar mentions about strong fundamentals and not a lot of overtones with ladder braces. Intricate headstock. I like it- original! Or atleast nothing I've seen before. I'm glad your experiment turned out! That sounds like the type of guitar I'd prefer for my playing style.

ha, it is just a small turning that I did on my drill press, but it does kinda look like a chess piece.
Dennis, I agree that chladni would be interesting on this one, but that is something that I don't think I'm ready to get into yet. It does seem like the waist cross brace isolates the top, which if that's the case would definitely cut down on overtones. The saddle is 1.5" from the intersection of the x which really isn't a whole lot different than my other builds. The other big factor in this build is that the top is a true flat top where all of my other builds have had a 15' radius. With that in mind, I actually thought that this one would have a lot of overtones because of the lack of stress from not doming the top.
Alexander, the headstock was something I dreamed up a while back and thought that this would be the perfect project to actually test it on. As far as I can tell, it is original. I didn't build on anything else I've seen, but is there anything that is ever truly original?
