Forum member John Ressler can add a new line to his resume. That's right, John is now a published author! Whilst teaching a guitar building class at the Marc Adams School of Woodworking, John was approached by Shiffer Books to write a how to on building a stringed insturment. Knowing that much has already been written on the subject and that the average royalty a new author recieves is around $0.20 per copy, John chose a simple instrument for the subject. Time for a commercial. Avilable now from Schiffer Books , "Pickin' Stick: Building A Stringed Instrument" http://www.schifferbooks.com/newschiffer/book_template.php?isbn=9780764335716. A Pickin' Stick is a three stringed cross between a Dulcimer and a Banjo with a diatonic scale tuned to open G (GDG). Great for sing alongs at camp fires and practicing your strumming techniques. If your a newb and want to build a guitar but are a bit intimidated by the process, build one of these. A seasoned builder who wants to try someting different, think "Pikin'Stick". It's fun, it's easy and you can build it with material you probably have laying around the shop. End of commercial. Congradulations John, we can now think of you in company with C&N, Hiscox, Hurd, Somogyi... Steve |

You ratted on me Steve! I now know why there are few books on instrument building on the market. As small as this book is, it took an insane amount of time between photos and text, with very little expected in return. My goal is to break even. It was a fun project though, and is fun to say you wrote a book! |

I ordered it. Good project for the kids. I did a plan for a Strumstick once, but I didn't get around to it. Now they are older and could possibly do that for you. I hope it has less generalities and more specific than the Somogyi book. |
