Maybe you could build a commemorative guitar for old Buddy.
Around here McBeath Hardwoods in Berkeley has some that's quite expensive I think (like $25/bf). Probably worth it.

I may have a lead on some 2" thick and wide QS holly, but it is just sawn recently. Ends sealed & I'm getting pics. I have heard that it can stain really easily during drying. I guess it will partly depend on the price but I'm wondering about how to avoid the stain or should I consider getting it kiln dried? Has anyone ever tried bleaching the stain? MM |

Don't know about holly, but the best way I know to stop staining in maple & spruce is to cut it into final dimensions & get it stickered as soon as possible. |

A friend in Hattiesburg MS received a 38' clear holly log, 18" at the butt from his logger nephew over Labor Day weekend. It cost him 59 dollars to cut it into boards, and it is pure white. If you cut it into boards as soon as it is felled, it normally will not stain. My friend has received many of these in the past, and uses them for bindings and purflings, as well as sending lengths of quartered holly to all his builder friends. Jesse has also received logs large enuf to cut sets for dreds and jumbos, and has built a Holly guitar. Bob |
