Post subject:  Hammer Dulcimer hammers

My brother recently got a hammer dulcimer and I wanted to make him some nice hammers for Christmas. I made some for him real quick because he forgot his when he visited, but they were based off of a picture and not a pattern. They turned out ok, but I would like to make some proper ones. So, does anyone know where I can find a proper pattern or dimensions?

thanks
John

Hi John,
I could maybe email you a scan of some patterns I have.

Every hammer dulcimar maker, and every player, seems to have a favorite pattern, and to regard most others as useless at best. There is no single 'true, right, and holy' pattern for dulcimer hammers.

True, but it's nice to have a pattern for a starting point.

Here's what I have. I have no idea if it will print out at the correct size and ratios. Good luck!

Hope this is helpful...

You're welcome!

I think they say to make the shaft and head 1/10" thick.
