Merry Christmas to all at OLF. We had a record snow fall here in Oklahoma that broke all existing records. It was a blizzard yesterday with all interstates closed down for entire state. Cars stuck all over the roads and emergency services unable to rescue people. Many had to spend night in cars if unable to get out due to white out conditions. The sun is shinning this morning so maybe things will improve. So anyway merry chistmas and happy new year. John Neal |

Merry Christmas to all. The East Coast snow is just starting to melt off of some of the exposed surfaces, but the temperature is staying low and I don't expect the ground cover to disappear anytime soon. Being able to help out John made this online Christmas feel special. At home, we had a low key time. Everyone opened presents last night and (except for me, the anti-night-owl) slept in this AM, which gave me a chance to do the setup on the guitar below. Now, I'm cookin' up a turkey for us and some strays who are coming by this evening. It's also my birthday, number 57. My surprise Christmas present was an iPhone. This thing is cooler than the snow outside. I think it's the first electronic gadget I've ever gotten that verged on Arthur Clarke's notion of a sufficiently evolved technology. Here's a casual shot of the guitar - I'll try to take some real pictures later. I'm not proud of this one - the cosmetics are terrible. It sounds OK though. This is after the GAL Reyes/Blackshear plan, pretty much without changes. Sitka top, Alaskan Yellow Cedar b+s, cedro neck, Brazilian bridge+headplate, ebony binding and fingerboard. French Polished - a nice hard surface but I'd still get an F in Robbie's course, as this had insufficient surface prep and not enough of a careful stiffing and glazing. Couldn't help it - we're leaving for 6 months in Spain in two weeks, and I was in danger of not having an appropriate guitar to bring with. This one has a twin with an Englemann top that went off to it's owner in early 2008 - this is the first guitar I've gotten to final set-up since then. Too much real job! I guess I shouldn't complain - as a professional scientist, it isn't a bad deal to get to a stage in your career (and a level of success) where the funding agents basically tell you how much support they are giving you this year before you go through the process of writing the proposal to ask for it. Sometimes I'd like some downtime to spend in the shop, though. The label on this one is dated 8/07. ![]() Best wishes for 2010. Attachment: P1010001.jpg

Thanks and Merry Christmas to everyone. This is the friendliest bunch of people I have ever met. I have been on many different types of forums (photography, magician, furniture building), and luthiers are the friendliest. I wonder why that is? James |

I agree with James! I've belonged to a lot of different forums, and this is far and away the best ever. It's a privilege to belong to a group that shares work, skills, and even heartache and pain. I hope I get a chance to meet some of you in person one day ![]() |

Merry Christmas from Montana as well. It has been gently snowing here all morning but starting to taper off to sunshine this after noon. Santa stopped by Allied on the way here and put some curly mahogany and leopard wood in my stocking! Ho Ho Ho.... |

Merry Christmas to Lance,Brock & all the incredible members of this forum. When I first got the guitarmaking bug there was no internet . Just the Sloane book and very little info in any other venue. This forum let's share & learn in a easy to deal with format! This really is the "Golden" period of Lutherie . Best to all & to all a good night ! ![]() Mike |

Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year to all from sunny San Jose! We see small signs of the economy beginning to turn for the better over this way. Let's hope it returns strong. Cheers, Dave F. |

Hope you all had a good Christmas and while I'm not optimistic like Dave, may no one lose ground in the new year. I will be retiring (SS and hopefully disability) so my building will be cut back to pleasure again. ![]() |
