| Post subject: | Asymmtrical bridges |
I am looking at different bridge styles to get some ideas onther than the standard Martin bridge. I am I was curios if an asymmetrical bridge, for instance wider in the bass and thinner in the treble would change the sound? You could have the same weight but would be distributing the mass differently Just curious,  Richard |

Richard, Check into the designs of Dr. Michael Kasha. The late Richard Schnieder worked very closely with Dr. Kasha building his designs. The Gibson Mark series of guitars in the 70's had Kasha's impedance matched bridge (asymmetrical) as you describe and the guitars were designed by Richard (pretty sure). Steve Klein was also influenced by Dr. Kasha, so check his work out also. Actually lots of builders have been inspired by him and you should have much trouble digging up lots-o-information on the subject. Maybe Jimmy Caldwell will chime in here as he has built Klein inspired guitars in the past and could give you personal experience. |
