Post subject:  Which glue for MOP?

I am going to add a MOP plate to the tie block of a classical guitar bridge. On previous builds I glued bone strips using super glue and it went great. Wondering if CA will work fine this time too, or if I should try my regular fish, or hide glue?

Thanks!

Hide will bond MOP to wood, and so will fish (though it can have issues drying with a non-porous surface on one side). CA bonds shell more reliably and it's harder to screw up. All of them work, though, assuming you leave a lot of time for the fish glue to dry.

Thanks Bob. I might use fish - after all, before modern glue, MOP and bone were glued with HHG only...
I clamp fish glue for 12 hours (even if it is mostly cured in just a couple when the pieces fit perfectly).
Btw this joint is not stressed - actually the string ties clamp the joint tight.

I use white glue for the rosette on spruce if I use pearl. I use CA or Epoxy on the fretboard. While I am sure Hide glue will work , CA and Epoxy lends itself to color so the glue works are a filler to make the inlay clean to the eye.

Thanks everyone. I glued it a couple days ago with CA. I was shocked by how fast it grabbed. Shortly, I put it there and the next moment it was rock solid, luckily I placed it at 95% of the correct spot and only had to do some minimal filing to correct the alignment. wow7-eyes

Med. CA may give you a little more open time if needed and clean up with some acetone dampen rag. Always a good idea to have some acetone or bottle of nail polish remover around when working with CA. Just in case your finger get glued to the shell too. :)
