I got an email today from someone asking about an amp I'd made. Apparently it's being offered for sale: http://www.thegearpage.net/board/showthread.php?t=376074

At first I felt like a chef who'd just had their food sent back, so I contacted the person. Turns out that they love it but can't afford to keep it on. At least their ad says a few kind things.

It's an incredibly interesting experience to see something you made being sold by someone who isn't you.

James, That is one nice looking amp!I'm in the process of building a D'Lite 22, only I probably wont be able to build such a nice cabinet. It will be my first amp.

That sounds like a lot of fun. The D'Lite is a nice amp. Mine is very similar. Same type of power section, but the preamp is a bit different. Fender Values on the cathodes, and the mid cap is different, too. I have one in the works for Shane Neifer, too. I can't wait to get it to him. The most difficult thing about building the cabinets is covering the cabinet with tolex. I had no idea it would be so tricky to get a flawless result. Mine to date haven't been, but those cabinet corners make up for the corner seams nicely

Eleven is better than ten, you know. It is 10% louder. After hearing with my own two ears, an amp that went to 11, I don't think I would ever buy an amp that only went to 10. It would be a real shame if this amp only goes to 10, because it is very pretty.

Well, since it's your Birthday, Dennis, this amp goes to 24, if you wish it to. I see there are no numbers, so it seems that small increments would give you 24 good positions for volume.

I had the same problem as you with the Tolex (I built an 18-watter a couple of years back.)
After I'd finished it up I realized that it would have been quicker to just make a good wood cab and finish it with oil.
The Tolex thing is what a lot of folks expect, though.

Love that amp! What's it based on/what kind of tone stack/power amp section does it have? Also, I can't seem to find the old discussions with your other amps.

In part based on your info (and that book you mentioned a while back), I just bit the bullet on a Trinity TC 15 kit. Thinking of adding a few mods (pentode/triode for the EF86 and the power amp section, tried a Vox AC15 Heritage Handwired and particularly the switch on the preamp tube seemed very useful). I'm still pondering whether to combo or head it, but I suspect it'll be a head and a 2x12", because a combo just seems crazy heavy to me.

Also, I'm not even going to try tolex. Solid wood cabs for me.

Mattia, I'd definitely go with a head. I've been thinking about converting my variation of that amp into a head this summer. I'm excited that you're building it! The only modification I've made on mine is a 500p treble capacitor. If I remember, I think their version uses a 220p? The 500p really tightened it up for me. I created a thread on the Trinity forum noting the differences in the preamp between the Lightning and the JTM AC30's from the 60's. I'm going to make those changes this summer, too. Their forum is so great. I think you're going to love this!

That amp was based on a Dumble ODS. It's essentially a refined Fender. Very very touch sensitive, fast sound, extremely clear. Larry Carlton and Ruben Ford are famous for them. Stevie Ray Vaughn used a Dumble as well. I learned about them from Kevin Gallagher. The tone stack is my own variation. On the cathodes, I used the capacitor and resistor values that Fender used on their amps.
