This may seem like a weird question, but does anyone have a trick for removing the hose from a Fein Turbo III? The instructions just say to rotate it slightly and pull. That does nothing. I've tried to move the little ridged tab that sits in the notch in the hose mounting ring on the body of the machine; couldn't get it to move, and eventually broke it off with a screwdriver. That didn't seem to change anything; the hose mounting collar doesn't rotate more than about 2 degrees, and it won't come out. Help?

I believe that you just grab the hose and depress the button with your thumb while pulling out the hose.
I had the same problem a while back, the button looks like it's supposed to rotate.

Howard - you have to press the ridged button in - really hard - while pulling out the hose - then it will come out.

ummm, make sure the vacuum is NOT running when you do that?

I have a Turbo II and and Turbo III. I really only use the Turbo III for vacuum clamping, so I don't take the hose off that often. (Actually I don't think I ever have) However, I did check it out. It is different (on mine) than the Turbo II. The hose just is a tapper fit and I just twisted the hose fitting and out it came. The button did nothing.

And Hesh before your shorts get all bunched up I have a festool too. I must be vacuum crazy or a sucker.

John--Since you have both, can you give us a rundown on the good and bad.
(Other than the fact that they both suck)

I use the Turbo II for just about everything in the shop. The hose gets wedged in just below the table on my bandsaws (yea 2 of them) and does a nice job getting the stuff comming off the blade. I use the Turbo II with one with my PC obrital sander too, but I now do have a festool that I use more often than the PC. It gets hooked up to my router table and I use it for general use almost everyday. It seems a little underpowered but that usually just means the filter is a dirty. It is a work-horse.

In my shop the Turbo III is only used for vacuum clamping parts. (Not gluing.) It is for a high volume (not noisy, I mean it (re)moves lots of air) low "pressure" vacuum clamp, so a slightly leaky fixture is not a problem. Since you are moving a lot of air, a little leak is not too much of a problem. I actually had a piece of 3/4" MDF I was making into a fixture and as an experiment I just took the blank on the fixture Wth the vacuum on I could hold a one of my guitar templates in place just sucking through the entire 3/4" MDF. I was impressed on how stong the hold down was on this template. Now I would not do any heavy machining like this, but it did show how well the vacuum does its thing.

I have not ever even opened it up the canister on the Turbo III as I doubt there is much dust in there. I probably should clean it out to get a little better clamping "pressure." I will check it the first time a fretboard no longer is holding It is about 3 years old and although I don't run it all day, even with the clamping aspect of it ( it is like running it with the hose plugged which I doubt is that great for it) the Turbo III has been working Fein (sorry)

Both are quiet vacuums and that is important to me. (so is the Festool) I really hate those shop vacs that have the loud turbo fan in them. Even with ear protection on, those just bug me. I still have one of those shop vacs, but it rarely gets used.

BTW, Nelson if you were commenting on my website, sheese, thanks, but it is so out-of date. I have been actively working on the "engine" of the site (an entire rewrite of the main code) to make it more compatable with web standards. After I get that done, I do hope to upgrade the content, as most of that is many years old. It does take a long time (for me )get to that as I only do that in small bursts, mostly when I am too tired to work safely in the shop. Then when that is true, I am not that good at the learning new web standards as I think better when I not tired.
