Anybody know the best way to find a piece of corian 60" x 30" beside ordering it from a distributer. Doesn't matter what color. I am making a large fixture in the shop and need a piece this size. I can either use aluminum or corian. I figured corian would be cheaper.

yo can go to a custom Kitchen cabinet shop that uses Corian and ask if they will order a slab in for you with the next order. I an sure if they are willing they can get it for less than you will pay. That is a big hunk of corian and I am assuming you need a good constant plane. This size is likely a full sheet or maybe 36 x 60.

OK just went to DuPont's web site The sheets sizes are 30 or 36.6 wide and 98 or 145 long 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 thick and you are looking at over $230 Wholesale depending on color and texture

You could consider acrylic, as well, since Corian is essentially acrylic cement.

Depending on the thickness, the Corian will either be much cheaper, or MUCH cheaper than aluminum. Short of a thick cast block, plate is the most expensive form of aluminum.

There's always an assortment of sizes available on Ebay, the corian is generally cheap but the shipping is ususally high.

Kitchen cabinet comapnies usually have some laying around that was an over run from another kitchen or a goof in ordering. They will sell it to you cheaper. They may also have some that was torn out of a kitchen remodel.

I have several peieces of it, but nothing that large. The shipping would kill you too. Better to find it locally.

Just Checked McMaster Carr for acrylic. Looks like it would cost just over 300.00. I'll try the local cabinet shops around town. Somebody has to have some extra or mistake pieces.

The problem you are going to run into is the size you want is darn near a full sheet. but you may be right that someone will have a piece that was ordered wrong color or something but don't expect a big discount because that size is too usable for a counter top project. i would bet you best deal would be to luck out and fine a countertop maker about to order some stock and have him add a extra sheet to his order.

Do you need it to be seamless? If not the it is easily glued together but will not be as strong or as accurately flat as solid sheet.

Try royalstoneind.com. They often have pieces that were made incorrectly or wrong color match. I put in an entire shower with Corian from these folks. I also have a chunk approximately 30 by 48 left over which should provide me with a lifetime supply of nuts.

I was a DuPont authorized Corian installer in the mid 1980s, and I did a fair number of kitchens with the stuff. My impression is that it will probably be more thermally stable than acrylic, and it's also stiffer, if those qualities count for anything for you. But cheap it is not...

For what you want I would suggest begging for some sink cutouts and gluing them back together. Many places will be happy to save room in their dumpster. For $10 -$20 in methacrylate glue you can have a 30X60 sheet. Just not all the same color! <g>
