Post subject:  An introduction...

Hi all

I've been hangin' around here for about a week, and gleaning a lot of useful information. So I thought that I'd finally introduce myself.

I've been woodworking for a few years, and bought Kinkade's book last summer, with the thoughts of building my own guitar someday. Then, my 3 1/2 year old son took a serious interest in musical instruments... mainly the fiddle and the guitar. I know, it's really early, but both to encourage his interest, and to "make a practice run" to gain some confidence, I decided to scale down Kinkade's guitar by roughly 1/3, and have a go at it. The only wood that I bought was some mid grade spruce for the soundboard. Everything else is from my stock. Bookmatched bubinga sides and back. Bloodwood fingerboard, bridge and headstock veneer. Birch neck. None of it is ideal, but I'm not worried about sound so much on this one, but more about building procedures.

I have to say that I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought that I would. Rewarding at every point. Anyway, enough of that. I've included a couple of pics. The "box" is about ready to go together. I still have a bit of carving on the braces to do, and some general clean up.

Thanks for bearing with me.

Colin
