Seems like this is common on a lot of guitars but every once in a while, I get a guitar where it is strong enough to hurt the sustain on the fundamental.

As far as I can tell, it's not related to top or cavity resonance. Once I did find an area of the back that was lighting up and shaving a brace there helped. Any other ideas?

By the way, the search engine ignores single letters (and maybe symbols?) so it is impossible to search on "G#" or "open E harmonics".

Also, is there a spellcheck in the new software? If so, I can't find it.

Kent,
Didn't you bring this up in Oakland? I remember someone with a guitar that had a pretty strong G# when the E was played. I think it stumped the master.
I play guitars and listen for it now. I think every nice guitar I've played does that, but never as strong as that one in Oakland.
It didn't bug me at all until last February.

Add the Google toolbar - there is a spell checker, pop up blocker and other useful stuff.

Yep, that was me. I've also heard it on a lot of guitars though. On mine, it improves and eventually goes away as the guitar breaks in. But every once in a while I get one like that one you heard and want to get rid of the problem right away. It's only noticeable if you let the open E ring by itself but it bugs me that I can't figure it out.

Ervin had a few suggestions and I've incorporated all of them into my guitars. This is the first instrument to have the problem since then.

Oh, I forgot to mention that it's the low E.
