Does anyone know if there's a way to search for a specific phrase using the search function? When I do a search with multiple words it finds all threads that have those words, but not necessarily together as a phrase. I tried using quotes but it didn't work.

I tried that, and couldn't tell whether it worked or not. It was only a two word quote, and both words were highlighted whether together or separate, but every response did have the two words together in the order they were in, in the quotes. So I assumed it worked.

One thing that might be addressable in the future, is the ability to search on the title of a thread. If someone has a good, meaningful title, that is the best way to find it. i.e., "Tutorial" or "V Joint" The words may not be used in the actual body of the text.

I just tried "fret slot" and got hits on fret slot, and just fret. Doesn't seem to do search on phrase. Hesh, can you do that on the forum you're admin on?

Some search engines allow you to force the words to search for by adding a plus sign in front of the word. Example: +wordone +wordtwo would only return phrases that include both wordone and wordtwo. Hope this helps.

OK I just did a search that was phrased precisely this way: "double sides" AND "Ervin"

And the software worked great and returned only results that contained both of the contents of the quotations. So I think that you can use opperands (i.e. AND, OR) in searches to further refine them. This also means of course that encasing your phrase in quotes will work too but will only display results that have the exact same phrase in them.

Brock I never tried a search on the other forum yet since nothing is archived yet.

This is really powerful!!!!! (I need some clapping hands emoticons.... :D )

I thought I did, but apparently I did something wrong because it's definitely working when I try it now.

Aha! I'm getting the right hits on "fret slot", but it highlights fret slot, or fret or slot in the results.

You can also specify an author and get, for example "fret slot" by burbank, or some other world-class builder. 8-)

I'm pretty sure it's working correctly when searching for "fret slot". The preview text in the search results only shows the first few lines from the thread. In some cases it looks like only the single word "fret" was found. But, if you display the full thread you should find that somewhere in it the two words "fret slot" are found together, even if they didn't show up in the preview text. Does that make any sense? :shock:
