I think if we segregate all areas of building instruments we would have a very nice way to look up things related to specific types of instruments. Hey we could even have sub catagories by builder...those interested in Fender guitars vs. those interested in Gibson. Wow! that would really save a lot of time looking thru all those same old same old questions. maybe have a begginers section as well.

I could be way wrong, but IMHO, the more sections and divisions we have at OLF, the less friendly it will be. One of the attractions, to me anyway, is the cross interest banter, the on-line friendships, and the high level of discussions that cross all of those lines. When we divide into small groups of 3 or 4 people, most of that goes away. It also becomes much harder to figure out where things are you want to look at, because without any doubt, people will have a thought when they are in the wrong thread, and post the question. Then it is in the wrong place. Personally, I'm interested in, and building Classicals, but I like reading about other instruments too, including steel strings, ukes, dulcimers, violins, electrics, mandolins, and even b****s! If all that goes to other sections, it becomes too much of a hassle to make the rounds, and the banter is not nearly as friendly, or as informative. You'll get one person asking a question, then one other person will answer. End of discussion. No one else may read the thread and in a few days it's gone from the horizon. Maybe the question was answered, but the fun was gone. I'm here because it's fun; informative, but fun. Some of the other Forums have many subdivisions, and while they are good forums, it's too much trouble to go look at everything, because you have to jump all over the place. What happens is, is, you don't look, and you lose interest, because it's not fun anymore. The primary thing that drew me here was how much cross talk there was, and how everyone, regardless of what they were doing, had some input into the conversation. If I want to learn something I go to the Main Discussion Forum, and while I'm learning, I catch up with the guys and gals. I believe that all goes away when it is divided up too much. Certain things like CNC might have a reason to exist, but I find those threads to be mostly to the point. Not much banter there. Not a bad thing, but not fun either.

Sorry for my RANT! Just an opinion, nothing more.

i agree. No divisions. just thinking maybe it would be good if we had say an acoustic vs. electric vs. violin/uke/dulcimer catagories. Just the three...then people wouldn't get so offended all the time. Maybe even a business section where we could talk about taxes/accounting/marketing/shipping/invoicing/sales problems/retailing/whatever other than actual building...again so people who can't stand to see certain words in the topic areas don't get their poor little eyes all sore and GET OFFENDED
