Hesh,

How'd yours get so big? "Oh, behave!" (Austin Powers :) )

Yes, I know, I'm not Hesh...

but...the settings on this software have been changed to allow larger avatars...and many times when a person chooses a custom avatar they make it themselves and have to reduce its size to make it work on a forum....so in my eyes the question should be how did you make that nice .jpg so small! ;)

   We can have avatars that are up to 200 X 200 pixels with a total file size not to exceed 10kb.

I used Photoshop to crop and resize a photo to meet the above requirements.

If you don't have Photoshop you could use shrinkpictures.com.

I'm pretty fond of a program called IrfanView. It's free, and I use it as my image viewer as well as to crop and resize any photos I have. The filtering in it's pretty solid.

I second Bob on the use of Irfanview, it is a great little viewer that I have been using for around 8 years.

Cheers

I have to say that I think that having an avatar 200px wide is intrusive on the text columns, it's very untidy when all of a sudden as you scan down and an avatar intrudes into the meat of the thread. About 140px wide seems to be the best visual fit for the forum.

My old one was 100 by 100 but was 20K big. I wonder if I can simply resave it as a different file type. I don't know these tools yet on the Mac.

Oh, look at that - there it is. What happened?

Well, here we go...first post on the new software. So far, this is downright dreamy.

OK point well taken - I created an avatar 140 pixels wide as Colin suggested.

Avatars are cool but I too don't like the animated ones very much.
Are we sticking with the still life avatars?

I'm glad they are at lease big enough to see now. Hey wearing my glasses helps too

Mine looked so pretty at 200px! :)
But, solid argument on the aesthetic, so 140 it is.

Looks like the contest is on for the grossest photo of damaged flesh. I'm sure someone can top a mere leg shot of brown recluse morbidity. How about a third degree burn on someone's face? That oughta do it.

Well I used the photo editing software Bob recommended to get the avitar going. Worked OK for me. Thanks Bob

I noticed a striking similarity in our avatars. I'll change mine but was feeling really pleased with El Kabong. Darn.

I don't know, Jim, it looks like you are jumping into the conversation, and he's jumping out of it. Big difference! :)

Hi,

FYI you can resize pictures with the old microsoft paint program on just about every PC.

Go into the view menu, then the stretch/skew menu. I go about 30% on both vertical and horizontal.

You might have to size em a couple times to get what you want.

Happy trails...

I think there's room for more than one El Kabong. But I'm happy to switch to Bizarro Kabong.
