Shane ! sorry to hear about your misfortune , My prayers are with you , and your son, hoping you both heal well.I have been working in construction since I was 15 , these things happen so fast , like before you know it.
as far as the job site politics , I found out at an early age , I am not cut out for such things . at 21 ( after working for the company about a year )I was made forman of a rubber roofing crew, the most desirable labor position at the roofing company ,that had about 7 crews , I thought I was in my glory , but everyone that had been there longer began to envy me , they treated me badly , I was threatened with a knife , my car was vandalized . I quickly realized my advancement was not what I thought . for the last thirty years I have been working freelance , it has its ups and downs, but no job site politics , if I get a bad customer , its only for one job . Shane,
hope your finger will heal up nicely.

Thanks for the reminder. I also work with these machines daily, even though I have another day job. Sometimes I stay in the shop well into the night and I know my mind is not always as clear as it should be when I hit that switch. It is a dangerous habit, and when seasoned veterans like yourself can get bitten sends a serious message. Boy, I wince just thinking about it.

Sorry to hear about the accident. I know every time I look at my Woodmaster blade I think about what it would do if I slipped (those teeth do make you think). I will be hoping for the best and wishing you a speedy recovery.

Shane - so sorry to hear about your accident. I've been a member of the "Fractions-on-my-hand" club for about 15 years now after an accident with a jointer. Its never a good thing. My thoughts and prayers are with you for a speedy recovery.

I'm sorry Shane. You have a great attitude and that's a huge asset in recovery. Good luck.

Ouch!!!

Sorry to hear about that. I know what you mean though. I"ve come back from somewhere else realising " hey, I better pay attention. Those are your fingers near that blade!" Fortunatly I still have all 10. Which hand, neck or picken'? If you need someone to keep your 335 warm for you while you heal you have my address. I'll let the fleet know they can relax.

Mend well Bro!

Wow. I know several people who have lost/damaged fingers recently. One from a jointer accident another stuck his hand in the garage door. The garage door guy will probably recover.

Losing concentration is my biggest problem in the shop wrt safety. The problem is you don't notice when you do it. If you did, you wouldn't have lost concentration. I few years ago I made my own kerfed lining. The job was so repetitive that I lost focus several times. Each time I scared myself and still couldn't maintain focus. I buy my linings now.

I'm so sorry to hear that. That really bites. You have my sympathy. Hope it heals well and that your son wasn't too traumatized by it. Kids have the potential to get really wigged out when they see their parent get hurt.
I'm glad it wasn't worse, as these things can get really awful.

Shane, eek
I too, cringed as I read your post. I am really freaked out about getting cut. Even a razor blade gives me the willies. I suffered many nasty cuts over the years working with wrecked cars, lots of twisted and jagged metal. Your unfortunate story allows us to all step back and take a moment to focus before running machinery. I hope all the healing goes well and you are restored to good health quickly.

Aw, Shane, that totally sucks! (I can't type here the first words that actually popped into my mind.)

I wish you a speedy recovery, that the finger can be saved, and that the finger regains at least some functionality. Be sure to tell the orthopedic surgeon that you play guitar, and that you want the finger if there is any chance at all that it can be saved.

Thank you for humbling yourself to give us this reminder.

Dennis

My prayers are with you Shane.
I've worked over 30 years as a Tool and Die maker, Ive been very careful and only cut myself bad enough for stiches once and it wasn't realy that bad. I've been a target shooter for 35 years with out an accident. But 3 years ago While helping out in the kitchen I cut the flexor tendon for my middle finger on my left hand. oops_sign Whats my point? You got to be carefull all the time duh

Terrible news Shane.
Sounds like your attitude is upbeat, which is the most important healing factor.
Wishing you a speedy and complete recovery.
