I recently saw pictures of an argyle acoustic guitar ("The Scotsman"), and thought that a 335-style carved body would be really cool with this pattern. Does anybody have any experience with this technique? I could probably figure out the back plate construction, but how do you do the sides? Thanks.

I'm vaguely familiar with both of those guitars. :)
Are you looking to do the Argyle or the Plaid "Scottsman"?

They are indeed. Including the "stitching" on the argyle guitar which are .060X.060 alternating walnut/cherry pieces.

I saw this other guitar of yours at one of the first two La Conner shows. Very cool.

That was prior to me figuring out how the heck to bend the sides with this marquetry. That was a bear! The glue has to hold under heat, but can't be so rigid that it won't bend and the pieces factette.

No, it lets go at 160°. Bending happens at 310°.
Formaldehyde/urea is the only thing that I've found to work.
