Spotted this in an old Bing Crosby flick.... What is it? I think it's the great Eddie Lang with Bing Crosby in The Birth of the Blues.

Well, Eddie Condon played with bandleader Jack Teagarden (the trombonist), but IMDb says Eddie Lang played himself in this flick. One of my sources thinks it might be a custom made Martin based on an OM-18....

Doesn 't look like Eddie Lang to me. Lang (aka Salvatore Massaro), looks much more Italian, with a larger nose and a smaller chin than the guitarist pictured. There are lots of pic's of Lang on the Internet, usually with a gorgeous L5. This clip has a lot of stills, and a nice guitar solo: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7JYYhYlNIyI
I like the guitar in the picture you posted, though...

I don't think it is a Martin. The headstock corners are too sharp, the dots on the fingerboard are too large, and there is a dot on the 10th fret instead of the 9th. Also, the thick rosette is not typical Martin. In any case, it would not be an OM, since it has a 12 fret neck. Most OM's had a solid headstock. My guess is that it is Chicago made.

Joseph Bohmann made some guitars shaped like that, but I've never seen one with a slotted peghead. Of course, as the "world's greatest maker of stringed instruments," Bohmann had a lot of surprises in his instruments. At any rate, I think John's right--it looks like Chicago to me.

90 percent sure that guitar was made by one of the Italian guitar makers in the New York City/Jersey City area in the 1920s
