Blendall sticks are one of the easiest methods for applying color to scratches. After applying them the color needs to be made permanent by spraying with lacquer.

Or drop filling with a clear finish after applying the color.

If you are looking for cheap and fast, Old English comes in light and dark. People don't generally expect wood in a house to look like a new guitar. Wipe off all the old english that you can. Wipe the whole surface up to any edge where your eye expects to see a color/gloss change. After a day or two, wax the area if it has a gloss finish. The advice to spray lacquer only applies if the item has a visible smooth finish look. Lots of modern wood is finished with a thin open-grain look, and so doesn't need to be fixed as if it were a guitar.
