For the longest time I've used bone dust and superglue to fill and recut nut slots that were too deep. But, a while back I vaguely recall a post about some kind of product ( might be a two-part material) that can be tinted to match different shades of bone. I performed a search for that post, but came up empty. Can anyone tell me of that product and where to get it?

You might be referring to the use of dental filling resins and the UV wand they use for instant setting of the cavity filling. The resins come in many different "bone" colors. Hesh mentioned this soon before his Forum "retirement" while talking about nut filing. I got a UV wand for free from my dentist as they have to change them out frequently. Haven't found a source for the resins yet.

Visible light cure (VLC) material is the newer technology, but my dentist is a bit conservative, so is still using an LED UV cure system. We use VLC resin with a high intensity LED light at 470 nm (blue)...as long as the slot is well cleaned and prepped, the resin seems to bond quite well. We've tried high-intensity LED flashlights, but the cure time is inconsistent versus the purpose built dental instruments. There are used light cure instruments on Ebay for $30 to $90, with new units starting about $200 or so.

For specific nM lights look into aquarium lamps.
T5 lamps come in a LOT of nm and are pretty inexpensive:)

Most dental suppliers carry a variety of resin and cure systems. You might ask your dentist what system he or she prefers and then look online for suppliers. Ebay carries a variety of different brands, but we buy from a dental supply and pay the extra cost to have access to refills on compatible etchant, bonding adhesives, and syringe tips...you might pick up a kit with resin, bonding adhesive, etchant, and 4-5 extra tips per syringe of resin, then simply buy replacement syringes and other supplies when needed.

Dental resins are much harder and bond better to bone or ivory than superglue. The attraction of dental resin over a dust and glue fill is that it is a permanent repair, and can be tinted to make major repairs blend with bone or ivory. Most full kits come with a shade guide that can be used to either pick the closest tint from premixed syringes, or mix the tint from two or more syringes. A full starter kit with 6 shades plus a universal tint, bonding agent, etc. is usually between $40 and $60, while a high quality dental cure lamp will run $200-$300. We bill a nut repair at $25-$50 versus $80-$100 for a new shop-made nut, so cost recovery on the kit and cure light does not take long for a busy shop.
