Just wanted to let you guys know that DNA and Naptha do two different things. One will highlight the ridges in your epoxy pore fill so you can level them. The other will level the ridges for you while simultaneously making a mess of the fill.

Manufacturer suggests if you store them in your own bottles that those bottles be very clearly marked.

The more you know.

Knowing is half the battle.

Denatured Alcohol is so much more powerful a solvent than you would think.

DNA shouldn't do much to epoxy if it's ratio is right, it's mixed well and it's cured.

Yeah, in the end it wasn’t as big a deal as I had thought. I put it down and walked away. The good news is that I was able to finish up my 30’ radius workboard, so there is that. :)

I wouldn’t have thought to use either. What do you wipe naphtha on for?

Ok, based on the posts above, I'm confused which one is which. I always put an epoxy/ethanol 50:50 wash coat on as my last epoxy coat and the ethanol in that doesn't cause any problem for the epoxy already on. I haven't tried naptha on epoxy.

I don't know about Brad, but I use naptha to clean fine sanding dust out of wood and it's really good for highlighting surface flaws like small scratches. It doesn't evaporate as quickly as ethanol so you have a longer viewing time.

DNA can soften uncured epoxy more or less depending on the denaturant . MEK is sometimes used and will soften epoxy. Epoxy takes a few days to fully cure so that could be a factor also. I think in some cases the epoxy will re-harden without ill effect.

Sorry, this post was intended to be more of a joke highlighting what an idiot I can be at times. :D

I use the naphtha same as Jay. When I’m leveling epoxy it can sometimes be hard to see the remaining imperfections. Wiping naphtha on highlights them for me so I can take care of it.
