I have struggled with this for a while. I do not want to use bridge pins. Too fragile. I would prefer some kind of brass pin that screws into the harp peghead. Something with a stop on it to mange depth. Think of a screw that has a washer "welded" to it, and the screw has no threads above the washer. Any ideas?

You could use zither pins and file a groove to "catch" the strings. The depth could be managed by screwing the pin in or out.
