Here's a new one! This guitar has a spruce soundboard that has been naturally sculpted by the teredo mollusc (shipworm). The Spruce log was floating around the islands of Alaska for many years, then retrieved by Brent from Alaska Specialty Woods. I decided to see if I could make a guitar from what would normally be discarded timber. The outcome is really surprising. The mids and highs are great, the lows are a little light (to be expected as there is virtually no air frequency) but what is surprising is how nice and even the whole guitar sounds. It also has what has been described by those playing/listening to it as a "stereo/chorusy" sound. Blackwood back and sides, ebony fretboard, Birdseye Huon headstock veneer, Falcate braced. Gidgee bridge. I also put in a Barbera transducer pickup that is ridiculously responsive. This game is so much fun.

According to his website, it is a transducer. I have usually used LR Baggs pickups but this pickup is just incredible. The output for a passive pickup is amazing.

Does it go in the saddle slot?

Yep, it replaces the saddle. They come in various heights and are still adjustable. Normally, really easy to install (with minimal soldering onto a jack input, not supplied) but this one was a little bit trickier with no access once the box was closed. However, with a little bit of fiddling, all went well.

Very cool. How is it stability wise? Reason I ask is that I had a guitar made out of bug-holey sheoak - and it split all over the place this past winter..... The bug holes were beautiful but made it really unstable.

Reminds me of a surfboard blank that a Maori visiting Australia had carved as a piece of art when I was there several years ago.

What....no rosette around each hole??

Cool guitar. Is the round disk under the bridge functional or does it serve a visual purpose as a sound hole-like shape in the absence of the regular sound hole? It also looks like that shape is echoed by a semi-circle at the neck/body joint.

Awesome. Do you have more pics of the interior structure / bracing ?

It is cool but not the first. Rueban Forsland did one a number ago. I saw it but never played it. It was cool too. Not sure where he got the wood. Maybe ASW.

How thick is the top? Where the heck are the braces? Does that bridge need a bridgeplate? Very cool.
