Cool clips on GG of our very own Rick Turner. Love the part with Elias in it! He already sounds like a pro, has that luthier jargon down pat.

For a glimpse inside the outside-the-box way Mr Turner thinks, get this quote:

"I'd like to hear how a guitar sounds played through a 9 foot Steinway."

Yep Wes my friend I have em both and have loaned them out a bunch of times to OLFers.

Very cool interview with Rick!!

Not to high-jack but the Walker piece on the same DVD is interesting too.  Did you catch where he bends sides, and it shows it, and uses a few drops of fabric softener in the moisture that he applies rather liberally to the side?  Very interesting - along the lines of using SuperSoft II.

I love the Gourmet Guitar series but you have to know in advance that these are NOT instructional materials, instead they are about the icons/people of the guitar building world.

Did Volume 3 of Gourmet Guitars ever materialize? I notice from their webpage that Jose Romanillos was one of the featured luthiers, but their buy it now button pops up a message saying the item doesn't exist.

Jim I have not seen the 3rd edition for sale yet.  I also noticed that Stew-mac no longer sells Gourmet Guitars.

As with so many things, I'm afraid that Cindy and Holger Obenhaus, who filmed, directed, etc. this series, had a great concept but not a clear pathway to marketing the series.   I think this could have been a "go" with PBS...certainly the production values are fully professional.   I really enjoyed the time I spent with them, and I greatly appreciate the quality of what they did with me and the other luthiers.   I think they have quite a bit "in the can", but not edited and mastered yet.
